Grand House Boat Club Dining with view to Spain over River Guadiana

Style and Charm best describe rooms at the Grand House

I would like to share my recent stay and experience at two amazing hotels.

First, a true undiscovered gem is the “Grand House” in Vila Real de Santo Antonio.  Where is that you ask???  Along the beautiful Algarve Coast in Portugal.

The “Grand House” is a Relais and Château property and not only meets but surpasses the standards of this specialized association.  The rooms and amenities are sumptuous, and the dining is both region specific and completely American palate friendly. Incredibly friendly and accommodating staff (they were fun!) made my stay one I am eager to repeat.  Manager and Host Marita Barth (so lovely!) will personally see serving the needs and wishes of clients.  Have someone who wants to zip line from Portugal to Spain across the Guadiana River? (How fun is that?) Golfers?  The Algarve is peppered with beautiful courses within a short drive.  A special accommodation and somewhat of a hidden secret in a very charming and thoroughly walkable coastal town.

Secondly, I was delighted to spend a few days at the Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville (only 1 ½ hour drive from the Grand House).  My last visit to the Hotel Alfonso was many years ago and the hotel has undergone a complete refreshment (now a Marriott property) and is absolutely lovely.  Each room has maintained the authentic décor (much of it still original; fun process/ story that Alberto Rodriquez, sales manager would love to share) and the public spaces are amazing and reflect the beautiful and unique style of Seville.  Guest rooms are spacious, comfortable, and well-arranged.  The hotel is a popular spot for a more affordable wedding (vs Italy, France or UK) in their spectacular ballroom.  Wedding proposals or special announcements can be arranged on their private terrace (maintained for this type of special occasion) which has an incredible view over the city rooftops.  There is so much to enjoy and bask in at the Alfonso.  Food was very good at the hotel yet the prettiest area of Seville with many wonderful restaurants is right out the front door.  Old town is so charming and warm and welcoming with beautiful architecture and winding walking streets.  Wonderful!

The American Bar…Martinis anyone?

Décor immersed in Spanish Culture and ultimate luxury and comfort!
